What does a Night Auditor do?
Night Auditors balance hotel books and perform other accounting tasks during late night shifts. As they work when hotels are quietest, Night Auditors can complete essential accounting tasks that day staff do not have time for. They are responsible for some customer service duties, especially at the start of their shifts. They check in guests and take care of other requests after guest services staff have completed their shifts. They make sure hotels always have someone on site delivering customer service.
Night Auditor skills and qualifications
Night Auditors need a variety of skills to perform their accounting and customer service duties. A successful Night Auditor candidate will have various prerequisite skills and qualifications, they typically include:
- Accounting and mathematics skills for accurate auditing and payment processing
- Cash handling experience for counting and securing bank and processing cash payments
- Computer literacy, including using PMS software
- Verbal communication and good listening skills, for effective and pleasant interactions with guests and housekeeping staff
- Customer service for positive interactions with guests
- Knowledge of hotel operations, offers and the local area
Night Auditor experience requirements
Previous experience is not required for Night Auditors. However, some relevant experience previous customer service experience is valuable. Ideally, within the hotel industry, as they will be familiar with the way hotels operate. However, any customer service experience is helpful, especially experience in satisfying guest requests and making visitors feel valued.
Experience working night jobs is also valuable. Night workers are often self-motivated and able to work well independently without having to depend on other employees. Candidates used to working at night can stay alert and focused throughout their shifts.
Night Auditor education and training requirements
There are no educational requirements for being a Night Auditor, as most training is on the job. Most hotels prefer candidates with at least five GSCEs A-C (or equivalent), including mathematics and English. Candidates with NVQs in accounting, customer service or hospitality supervision and management is also desirable.
