We currently have an exciting vacancy for a Clinical Coder/Administrator to join our admin team. This is a part time role 20 Hours a week.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to be part of our extremely busy clinical coding/Admin team. As Clinical Coder/Administrator you will provide an invaluable link between the third-party information that comes into the Practice on a daily basis and the patient’s electronic records. Therefore, we need someone with accurate keyboard and IT skills and an understanding of medical terminology. Previous experience as a coder or notes summariser would be preferable though not essential. This role may also suit someone with previous nursing experience.

The ability to work as a team player as well as autonomously in a very busy role and the ability to prioritise work when under pressure is essential. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality in the workplace and able to follow data protection policies and guidelines.

What will the apprentice be doing?

· This apprenticeship is for a new role, of clinical coder.

· Currently, all correspondence received from hospitals, specialists and patients is seen by the GP’s and coded appropriately into the patient record.

· In order to free up GP’s to deal with more direct patient care, the coding of these items is being moved to a back office function.

· The coder will need to interpret and understand the letters, before coding them into the patient record, only then forwarding for the GP’s to deal with any correspondence where they need to take action (for example a change in medication requested by a consultant.)
