Quality Inspector duties and responsibilities
Quality Inspectors are responsible for a wide range of tasks related to the oversight of a product. They must thoroughly understand the product the company is producing and how it is viewed by the client. Other duties and responsibilities include:
- Designing, reviewing and updating quality control policies and procedures
- Ensuring quality check procedures are followed at every stage of production

Previous experience in a customer service role such as a Salesperson, or as an Inventory or Inspection Specialist is also helpful. A candidate must be familiar with the industry in which the company is based and the various types of products they produce.
Quality Inspector education and training requirements
Employers usually hire candidates with a degree in production management or a degree in the industry the company works in like engineering, science or pharmaceuticals. If this is an entry-level position, it’s helpful for applicants to have some previous experience in areas like engineering or health and safety if they do not possess a higher national diploma.
Applicants can also bypass formal education by receiving relevant qualifications through the Chartered Quality Institute, where they can earn quality certification for specific areas such as construction, supply chain and design process.
