A Teller, or Bank Teller, processes day-to-day financial transactions and resolves issues regarding customers’ bank accounts. Their duties include performing administrative and clerical tasks, assessing customer needs and cross-selling banking products and services.

Teller duties and responsibilities

Tellers usually work in credit union branches or commercial bank branches. Some work in small banks, while others work in large buildings. They usually work full time from Monday through Friday. Also, they sometimes work overtime or during weekends. Their day-to-day duties and responsibilities include:

  • Counting cash at the beginning of their shift
  • Processing cash and cheque deposits
  • Validating the authenticity of cheques and accuracy of deposit slips
