Insurance Agent experience requirements
Most applicants should have previous experience at other companies, usually as a Junior Account Handler. A candidate with industry qualifications through the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and who has initiative and experience will also be considered.
Some job applicants may come straight from university and will hold a Bachelor’s or Degree (BA),or Bachelor’s of Science (BSC) in Business Management, Financial Services, Marketing or perhaps Maths. They should also have gained some real-world experience while studying, usually through an internship.
Insurance Agent education and training requirements
There are many education routes to becoming an Insurance Agent. One way is to attend university and graduate with a degree in business studies, finance, surveying, engineering or something similar. A person may also obtain the positions through an insurance professional higher apprenticeship which requires 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 and A levels. Another way is through companies willing to take on trainees with a minimum number of GCSEs at grades 9 to 4. Trainees will usually start as an Insurance Technician or Junior Account Handler before they move up to the position of an Insurance Agent.
